candlelight dinner 2010 photos
One of the biggest events that the Art Factory helps host each year is the Candlelight Dinner (or CLD), which was started 15 years ago as sort of a Valentine dinner outreach for German couples in the community. Over the years CLD has morphed into something much bigger: an artistic dinner/dessert/theatre event that performs for up to three nights. Every year the CLD is completely sold out!
The Art Factory works with the Black Forest Academy, local churches, and lots of community members on this event to say "thanks" to the Germans in the area for letting them be a part of the community, to serve them, and, most importantly, to share Christ with them. The CLD theme for 2010 was "Brokenness to Beauty," using mosaics as the driving imagery to express brokenness and restoration through Christ.
I was able to fly to Germany to help out with CLD, where I ended up being on stage both nights as "The Potter." I'm sure I was useful as an extra pair of hands, but the trip also ended up being an important time of connecting with Rick and Mary Beth Holladay—the owners of the Art Factory—and getting to know some of my colleagues in GEM. I also threw in a few more pictures of Kandern, a beautiful little village in Germany, where the Black Forest Academy, the Art Factory, and GEM's European headquarters are located.
